Rules & Syllabus of GMTA Course
Title of the Course:  
  Graduate membership of the Textile Association (GMTA)
Title of the Award: 
  Graduate member of the Textile Association (GMTA)
Entrance Qualification:
  a)   ATA Stream
  b)  Diploma Stream
  Note:
At present only two streams have been introduced. Later on efforts will be made to introduce the courses for other streams mentioned in this hand – book.
Educational Requirements:
  1) For ATA Streams
Passing of ATA exam with Xth (SSC) or XII Standard (HSC) examination with any optional subjects.
  2)
For Diploma Stream
Passing of Diploma Examination in Textile Technology / Man – Made Textile Technology / Textile Engineering / Textile Chemistry and other Textile courses recognised by the Board of Technical Education of any State of India, and approved by the Textile Association (India).
Medium of Examination: 
  English
Age & Other Conditions:
  1.   A candidate should have minimum age of seventeen years when he appears for the section A of GMTA Course.
  2.  A candidate is eligible to appear for the appropriate examination of the GMTA Course after completing at lest one year of the membership of the TAI.
  3.  He should become a Life Member after passing the section B examination if he is not already a Life Member.
Examination:  
 
At present examinations will be held only once in a year i.e. in the month of December, along with the ATA exams. The exact schedule of examination along with the approved centres for conducting such examinations will be published in the JTA or through the TAI News Letters of the Units at least six months, prior to the commencement of the examination.
Registration:
  1)
The candidates are required to register for examination in a prescribed application form, three months prior to the examinations.
  2) Necessary passing certificates for each stream must be enclosed along with the application.
  3) The applications will have to be scrutinised and passed by the PAC before permitting the candidates to appear for the examination.
To Pass Exams:
  1) Minimum number of marks to pass any subject is forty percent.
  2) To get an exemption in any subject minimum of fifty percent marks are needed.
  3)

Candidates can pass the exam in parts also but he has to clear each section within three attempts only. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the permission for examination.

Curricula for Different Scheme:
Candidates with different educational background and qualifications will have to follow the instruction as given below.
A) ATA with minimum X std. Pass:
  1)   These candidates will have to appear and pass in all the four papers of Section A and Section B each and six paper in the group of his choice in Section C four of which are compulsory (C) and two are selected from the list of optional (O) subjects mentioned in each group.
  2)   All the four papers in Section D are compulsory for candidates of all groups.
  3)   In all they have to appear and pass 18 papers and submit a dissertation as mentioned in Section E.
       
B) ATA with XIIth or HSC Pass with Science subjects:
  1) These candidates are exempted from appearing in Section A only. They will have to appear for four papers in Section B and Six papers in group of their choice.
  2) All the four papers in Section D are compulsory for candidates of all groups.
  3) In all they have to appear and pass 14 papers and submit a dissertation as mentioned Section E.
C) Textile Diploma Pass:
  1. These candidates are exempted from appearing in Section A. However, they will have to appear for any two subjects out of the four in Section B and Six papers in Section out of which four are compulsory (C) and two are optional (O) to be selected from any one group of their choice.
  2. All the four papers in Section D are compulsory for candidates of all groups.
  3. In all they have to appear and pass 12 papers and submit a dissertation as mentioned in Section E.
Taking Exams:
  Candidates can take exams in papers of the Section A and Section B at one time. After passing section A & B candidates can take exams in Section C and Section D at one time in the same year. Only after passing all the Section A, b, c and D candidates are allowed to submit the dissertation mentioned in Section E.
       
Dissertation:
  1) In section E a candidate is required to submit a short thesis on any topic related to any sector of the textile industry, in consultation with the referees approved by the PAC. Candidates have to register under a referee before starting his dissertation work.
  2) An oral exam on dissertation subject will be held for the candidate.
  3) A format of writing the dissertation will be provided on request by the candidates.
       
GMTA Award:
  1) GMTA will be awarded to candidates who have passed all the necessary exams and the dissertation work.
  2) He should produce a certificate of total two years working experience in any sector of textile industry / research / teaching institute before applying for getting the GMTA award.

  Section E : Dissertation (Mark 100)
  1) A dissertation / Project should be submitted subsequent to passing all the written examination.
  2) A Preliminary work for a dissertation / project is allowed to be started before appearing for Section D examinations.
  3) The title of the dissertation / project, name of the referee, place at which project work is expected to be undertaken, aim and scope of the project and data to be collected etc. should be submitted in a note form, after passing the group D examination to the PAC of the Central Office, within a month from the announcement of the Group D Results
  4) Each dissertation / Project, will be examined by a panel of examiners and an oral examination will also be held for the purpose.
  5) A dissertation / project, should run to about 10,000 to 15,000 words and should be neatly presented in a stipulated format. It may not be an original contribution but may comprise a literature review or a report on practical or experimental work. Candidate should, however, draw conclusions from his work or criticise the work covered in the literature review.
  6)

Candidates should prepare three type written copies of his project and submit two copies of his project and submit two copies to the PAC for assessment. If the work is found not satisfactory, he would be required to resubmit for approval after making the changes suggested during the assessment of the dissertation by experts/examiners for getting the GMTA award.
